General Rules
1. Upon registering for this site, you have to agree the Proboards Terms of Service. It is recommended that you read these, but because hardly anybody actually ever reads the terms of service anyways, the most important and relevant points will be summarized in this thread.
2. All content on the site must be appropriate for children as young as thirteen. In addition, content on the site must adhere to the following guidelines (emphasis added):
3. Cussing is permitted, especially in-character, but should not be excessive. It's okay to use a few cuss words, but if it's getting to the point where it's every other word or a few cuss words each sentence, then you should tone it down.
4. Be respectful towards each other; it's okay to disagree with someone, or dislike someone, but there's no reason to be a jerk to them.
5. Try to make sure your avatar is no more than 250px in width, and 400px in height. It's okay for it to be less than that, but it can stretch the page if it's larger.
6. Your avatar cannot be a picture of a real person, dead or alive. This is due to legal concerns. It doesn't have to be of your character- it can be of a landscape, an animal, a flower, anything except a real person or a copyrighted symbol.
7. It is highly recommended that you check beforehand to make sure your avatar is not copyrighted. Good places to find images to use are sites like Pixabay, or Flickr's Advanced Search, with the proper options ticked. Even if you find it on these sites, do not pick a picture with a real person; copyright laws are separate from laws regarding people's faces. We're not gonna check or anything to see if the image is copyrighted, it's just a suggestion.
8. The majority of the site should be in English. It's okay for small phrases from other languages in-character, (like "Dios mio!" or even whole sentences), but discussions and roleplay posts should be in English. There is an exception for the Journals and Diaries board.
Rules Regarding Roleplay Posts
9. Roleplay posts should be at least around 2 paragraphs in length. Quality over quantity, however; don't add in a bunch of insignificant details just to make a post longer. You want to give your roleplaying partners something to reply to, not a wall of a text with a few relevant details mixed in.
10. Roleplaying posts should be tagged, indicating whether a thread is private or open. After the thread title, you need to say whether the thread is "Open" or "Private". "Open" means that anybody is free to post in the thread, while "private" means that the thread is intended only for a certain person or group of people. To tag a thread as open, just write "[O]" or open after the thread title. To tag a thread as private, type, "[P: _]" or "[Private: _", where "_" is the name of the person the thread is with. If there are multiple people, just separate it with commas (for example, "[P: Bob, John]". You can choose either a specific character name or OOC names. In addition to these tags, staff may occasionally tag threads with [E], [SP], [C], or [FT], which stand for "Event", "Sport", "Club", and "Field Trip", respectively.
11. Roleplaying posts should also be tagged with the first three letters of the current in-character month: for example, [Sep], [Jan], [Jul], etc. The current in-character month can be found on the side, in the second side table titled "Happenings".
12. We have an in-character time system, consisting of months and school years. Rather than having a specific schedule, we'll try to move the months along whenever we see either lots of roleplay, or when we see that things aren't moving along. There will be different events each month for students and teachers, to keep things interesting. If a month rolls over, any ongoing threads can still continue: that's what the month tag is for, to tell when a thread is taking place.
13. Months with breaks, such as December, June, or July, will move along faster than normal school months. This will allow events to happen during the breaks, while it's not boring for people who's characters went home during the breaks.
14. We use a fluid time system. It's okay for a character to be in multiple threads at once, and it's okay for a thread created in one month to be ongoing even a few in-character months after that month has rolled over. If a thread has had no activity since the month has rolled over, however, it will be locked and archived. (For example, a thread is created in December, and nobody posts in it during January- it will be archived when the month rolls over to February.)
15. We are an account per character site. You need to create a new account for every character, and post the character's application and in-character roleplay posts on this account. The name of your account must be the first and last name of your character (although you can add their middle name too). Also, an application is required before RPing.
16. You're also permitted an out-of-character account. The option to flag your account as "out of character" is in the groups section of the profile, just join the group of the same name. You don't have to make an OOC account, and you could eventually switch to a character account if you want, but it's an option.
17. Roleplaying should be fun. If you're not having fun, it's okay to archive a thread or character, or take a break for a while. Anything that works for you.
